Flight of the Butterflies - Sky Blue Topaz Flutter & Sky Blue Wonder Part 2

As promised, here are the last 6 cards made from the HD Flight of the Butterflies Jeweled Edition card kit - bringing the total to more than 47 - probably about 60 in total when you count the cards I had made before starting on this Flight of the Butterflies marathon.  I know I had made 9 concept cards and there were several pieces missing from the sheets indicating individual cards made at other times.  If I made 4 cards in addition to the concept cards before starting on this set in earnest, those, added to the 47 I've made this go-round brings the total to 60!!!!  That's a lot of cards from one set (of course I supplement with my own supplies).

Card #1: Anyway, for this first card I decided to do an inlaid panel.  Using the Scroll Panel from the Leaf and Scroll Panel die set by Simply Made Crafts, I simply cut into the front edge of the card front.  I backed this with a piece of card stock that was blue-green on the front & white on the back (so it doesn't look out of place from the inside - card stock from an 8" x 8" pad from HOTP).  On the front, I added a strip of AS ("Adorable Scoreable coordinating card stock from the set) backed with gold poster board.  Next I added a couple of die cuts from the set, a butterfly sticker from my stash, and a die-cut button (Nellies Multi-Flower die set) "sewed" on with gold thread.

Inside:

Inside I have more of the AS, a thin border of gold poster board, and another die cut from the set.

Card #2:

This card started out with much promise, but didn't turn our quite as nice as I envisioned.  The side borders are card stock coated with Lavender Blue Opal Polish (by Cosmic Shimmer). The darker teal is plain paper - which turned out to be too plain, so I added a bit of interest with some Distress Ink (Tumbled Glass) and a Stampscapes stamp (Pearly Everlasting).  I added Border Dazzles, a couple of die cuts from the set, and a couple of butterflies from my stash.

Inside:

Inside I have more of the opal polish covered card stock & a die cut.

Card #3:

By this time I guess I was getting a bit bored as I put together this unusual card.   The background is a piece of AS with a butterfly border & black inked edges.  I took a round frame from the set & cut it in half.  Overlapping the two pieces gave me a perfect place for this butterfly focal.  The butterfly is from my stash but came in orange - which didn't go well.  So, I took some Sharpie pens and colored in some teal & red on its wings.  The sentiment was from the Little Book of Essential Greetings (Pearl 2016).  I modified it as well.  It was too white - stood out on the card more than looked good.  So I added some Tumbled Glass Distress Ink to it to tone it down a tad.

Inside:

Inside I have more of the AS & a couple more die cuts.

Card #4:

When I got ready to make this card, I pulled in a background I had created with alcohol inks.  It looks like it was MADE to go with this set!  (It's the lighter colored background on the right-hand side - both on the card front & on the inside.)  I started with a small piece of AS with three pretty butterflies on the left - then finished with the hand made background.  Though the join looked really good, I thought it looked even better with a Border Dazzles on it.  The focal & sentiment are die cuts from the kit, but I matted the sentiment on a tag-shaped piece of gold poster board (die cut with Spellbinders Renaissance Jeweled Frame die set).  A few Jewel Dazzles completed the card front.

Inside:

Inside I have more of the AS on the left & my hand-made background on the right.  A strip of gold poster board & a die cut sentiment complete the left side.  On the right I added a butterfly from my stash.

Card #5:

This card again uses that hand-made alcohol ink background - paired with another piece of the AS from the kit.  After inking the edges, I used a see-through black ribbon, thin strip of teal paper, and narrow Border Dazzzle to create a border to which I added my sentiment die cut.  The focal was matted on another piece of the teal paper - die cut with a Spellbinder's die (Picot Edge Circle).  Two little tails of black ribbon complete the focal & card front.

Inside:

I decided to use the scrap of teal paper as it was - with the hole left from cutting out the mat for the card front.  I glued this to more of the hand-made background, and attached a piece of the AS at the bottom - inking the edges before gluing.  The hole created the perfect framed effect for the die cut sentiment (from the kit).

Card #6:

This last card was made using a craft colored card base.  I cut a frame from gold poster board to frame the background AS.  Then I added a round frame to highlight the die cut focal.  The tag is from the essential book of sentiments (Hunkydory) and had a small gold bow tied to it.  A few Jewel Dazzles in the lower right corner complete the card front.

Inside:

Here you see the craft colored card base - a strip of AS backed with gold poster board for a border, and a little butterfly made from die cut scraps from the kit & gold Jewel Dazzles for the body.

So, there are the last 6 cards from this kit.  I did a good job of using up scraps & have a LOT of butterfly cards now.  They should last me awhile!

Flight of the Butterflies - Sky Blue Topaz Flutter & Sky Blue Wonder

Today I was back to making cards from the Flight of the Butterflies Jeweled Edition by Hunkydory.  I'm nearing the end of this card kit - just have these aqua colored sets to work through - called Sky Blue Topaz Flutter and Sky Blue Wonder (for concept card) sets.

Card #1: (above)

This first card makes use of some of the AS (Adorable Scoreable card stock) that came with the set.  The border was printed directly on the AS.  I backed the panel with a gold poster board mat.  The focal is a die cut from the set that was matted on a piece of gold poster board that had been die cut with a Spellbinder's die (Splendid Circles).  The greeting is also from the set - added with a bow from my stash.

Inside:

Inside I used a scrap of coordinating paper from my stash & matted it in gold for a border.  The greeting inside is matted on a gold die cut made using another Spellbinder's die (Radiant Rectangles).

Card #2:

I found this particular piece of AS rather challenging to use.  Since it had the look of torn paper printed on it, I added some paper tearing myself (the green with black torn edge - card stock from HOTP) to form a bit of a border.  The large butterfly is fussy cut from one of the concept card panels.  The greeting is die cut from gold poster board using a die from A2 Stitched Rectangles Dots & Stars by Crafti Potential. The other two butterflies are stickers from my stash.

Inside:

Inside is more of the same - this time with the outer frame cut away from the butterfly that was used on the outside.  This frame was backed by a background created from a piece of glossy card stock sprayed with teal & gold glimmer mists.  The greeting is stamped using a JustRite stamp from Grand Sentiments, then heat embossed in gold.  Another butterfly from my stash completes the inside.

Card #3:

This third card is mostly created from a piece of AS, but I wanted some black on the left side as well as the right.  I tore a piece to add there & matted the whole on gold poster board.  Then I added a thin strip of the gold to add to the border.  The greeting/focal came from the kit, but I matted it on a piece of corrugated card (from HOTP) that was die cut with a Labels Twenty-Eight (Spellbinders).

Inside:

Inside I made borders from scraps of the background used for the front of the card.

Card #4:

This card uses more of the HOTP card stock for the card base.  It didn't score well - some unwanted tearing - so I wrapped it with washi tape forming a border.  I used more to create a border at the bottom.  The focal is one of the pieces from the concept card.  The sentiment is from a Hunkydory Little Book of Essential Greetings.

Inside:

Inside is more of the card stock for a border, with washi tape.  The rest of the background is a piece of white card stock that has been coated with Lavender Blue Opal Polish (Cosmic Shimmer).  I finished by adding a butterfly sticker from my stash.

Card #5:

Card number five uses the last of the concept card pieces - a frame & a full butterfly in frame - which I used to create a shaker card focal.  For the background, I found a piece of card stock that was similar in color, but I wanted to pull in other colors from the focal as well.  So, I embossed the card stock with a Spellbinder's M-Bossability folder called Venetian and then added some distress ink to the raised areas (Pine Needles and Antique Linen) using a round foam applicator. Finally, I added a butterfly from my stash and a greeting from the Hunkydory Essential Greetings book.

Inside:

Inside is more of the embossed card stock and another butterfly from my stash.

Adding these 5 cards to the previous ones made from Flight of the Butterflies brings our total to 41 (which doesn't count 2 or 3 cards made before I started to focus on using this set).  You'd think this kit would be all gone, but it's not.  I expect to get 6 more cards from this turquoise set!  We'll see if that's the way it works out when I make and post the final cards from this set.

Hand Holding

Today I have another Bible Journaling page.  For more information about the meaning of this page for me, check my other blog - here .  As to how I made it, it is an inserted page (because I had already done journaling on both pages & REALLY wanted to journal about these verses too!), glued in place using a "ZIP" Line adhesive strip.  Here's what I did:
  1. I started with a piece of vellum-like paper that had a shimmery sheen to it and printed the picture onto the page.  To make sure it didn't smear on the slippery surface of this paper, I covered it with clear embossing powder & heat embossed it.
  2. If I had thought about it, I might have also printed the verse, but I didn't think about it at the time.  SO, I printed the text on a separate sheet & the traced it with a Sharpie.
  3. Next I tried spraying with Glimmer Mist, but that really didn't show well on this paper.
  4. I added color with Distress inks (Salty Ocean & Broken China).
That's it!  Pretty simple, really, but a meaningful page.  It's actually translucent so you see the page behind it, but I put a craft sheet behind it for taking the picture.

Flight of the Butterflies Jeweled Edition - Antique Emerald

Today I went back to the Hunkydory Flight of the Butterflies collection - this time the Antique Emerald set (from which I must have used some of the adorable scoreable card stock and one of the toppers).  To this I added some leftovers from other sheets in this collection, as well as a few die cuts from a HOTP set and other items from my stash. Using these items I created six cards.

Card #1: (above)  I found the printed AS (adorable scorable card stock) in this set rather challenging.  The printed pattern really only looked good one way, but cutting it to fit a card front and having the butterfly tags intact was challenging.  Also, the die cut elements were vertical, and horizontal ones would have been easier for standard card sizes.  At any rate, for this first card I chose to make a standard sized card and just cut a little off the sides of the tags so it would fit.  This meant there was no room to spare to add a mat, so it went on the card just plain.  After inking the edges, I added a vertical die cut piece, a sentiment, and a butterfly from my stash (it does NOT have blue on it - that's just what the camera saw when photographing the holographic butterfly!).

Inside:

Inside I used another piece of the AS & a die cut sentiment from the kit.

Card #2:

I didn't like this focal with the AS provided, so decided to make an embossed background for it.  I used an A2 embossing folder called Butterfly Swirls (Darice), and Peeled Paint Distress ink.  Since it was an A2 folder, it didn't really fit for a 5" x 6.5" card, so I did two things to make it work.  First, to do the embossing, I had to cut front & back apart & tape together from the side instead of the top!  Second, I added strips of green glimmer paper where the embossing ended since it looked really weird without them!  The die cut is matted on a piece of gold poster board that was die cut using a die from Decorative Labels Eight (Spellbinders).  The sentiment is from my HD Little Book of Essential Greetings.

Inside:

Similar elements form the inside, but this time the mat was cut with a die from Luscious Labels One (again from Spellbinders).

Card #3:

This background was created by combining a piece of the AS with a border die cut from the kit and a piece of green paper from my stash.  After matting this on gold poster board, I backed the die cut (from the set) with a piece of gold poster board that had been cut with a die from Fancy Tags die set (Spellbinders).  A few Jewel Dazzles (HOTP) complete the card front.

Inside:

Inside is more of that prepared & matted background - this time with a Scrapbooking Dazzle butterfly (HOTP).

Card #4:

Because of the orientation of the AS & the die cuts, I ended up making several tall cards to fit in standard business size envelopes.  This is the first of those.  In addition to elements from the card kit, I added gold poster board, ribbon from my stash, and Jewel Dazzles.

Inside:

Inside we have another die cut from the set, a strip of gold poster board with a snippet from a border from a different HD set to create the sentiment.  Butterfly is from the dollar store (and does NOT have blue on it - trick of the light), and the "trail" is outline stickers.

Card #5:

For this card I used a die cut panel (gold poster board cut with a Leaf Panel die from Simply Made Crafts).  The focal was pieced together from a die cut and border strip from the set along with some gold poster board.  The sentiment is another die cut from the set.

Inside:

Inside I wanted a bit of green, so took a scrap from the die cut sheet & backed it with gold poster board to create a border.  The tag is from the kit - accented with a piece of ribbon from my stash.

Card #6:

The focal is a Hunkydory die cut, but I'm not sure if it was originally from this set or from another.  At any rate, it's matted on a die cut piece from a HOTP set and embellished with die cut leaves from that same HOTP set (not sure what it was called).  The background is pieced from leftover pieces of AS and edged with gold poster board.  The sentiment is another die cut piece of gold poster board (Fancy Tags die from Spellbinders) and matted on a piece of green card stock from my stash.  The sentiment itself is a leftover piece of a border strip from another HD set.

Inside:

More of the same inside finishes this 6th card.

Merry & Bright ACK Part 4

This is the last installment of the Merry & Bright ACK (Artful Card Kit - HOTP).  There's very little left - just a couple small tags & some tiny scraps.  I got 4 more cards (bringing the total from this kit to 17) and 3 tags.  Here they are.

Card #1: (above)  This card was made as a Gap Card - so called because a gap is cut in the card front and bridged with something - in this case the label that forms the card focal. The background paper is from the kit.  The label was a die cut, also from the kit, but I stamped the pictures on it (Inkadinkadoo - heat embossed with clear embossing powder) and added the word joy (alphabet sticker set from my stash).  The word BELIEVE was a die cut from the kit.  I finished the card front with a few poinsettia Dazzles (HOTP).

Inside:

The inside uses the same papers along with another couple of die cuts from the set.  A stamped image from the same Inkadinkadoo set forms a bit of a focal, and the word Rejoice was also stamped from the Inkadinkadoo stamp set.

Card #2:

Next up is a card where the background was embossed with a Darice folder (Snowflake Background).  Patterned papers & die cuts are from the set - enhanced with snowflake Dazzles (HOTP) & border.  A silver bow finishes the card front.

Inside:

Inside we have more of the same: strips of paper from the set & snowflake/border Dazzles.

Card #3:

For this card I used the die cut on the INSIDE!  We'll get to that in a minute.  The card front has paper from the kit, paper printed on my computer cut into strips and then cut as flags, and stickers from my stash (the boy & sled are Scrapbook Dazzles).

Inside:

On the inside I put a strip of the patterned paper (from the kit), a die cut (from the kit) that was stamped with a stamp from a set I got in a Cardmaking & Papercraft magazine (Christmas Cuties - Oct 2019 Issue).  I stamped it with Onyx Versafine ink & embossed with clear powder.  Then I colored it with my Scroll & Brush markers and again embossed with clear powder.  The music notes are stickers from my stash.

Card #4:

The last card (17th for this card kit) is made using most of the remaining die cuts and scraps of paper.  Sentiments are stamps from: Cardinal Small Stamp & Christmas Words (HOTP).

Inside:

Inside we have more paper scraps & a leaf die cut.

There were still materials left over, but not really enough for a card, so I made these three tags from the remaining kit materials:

Mostly these are scraps from the kit & ribbon from my stash.  I die cut the Santa using dies from Art Impressions Christmas Place Card Set.

Merry & Bright ACK Part 3

Today I'm back working on the ACK (Artful Card Kit) called Merry & Bright (HOTP).

Card #1: (pictured above)

Of the three cards I made today, I think this first one is my favorite.  It's a cut-away card where you can see the inside of the card peeking out where the card front has been cut away.  The cutaway shape was created by using a HOTP template from the set called Design Tool Kit #1.  The papers, focal, and tag for the greeting were all in the kit, but I added stamping and coloring to the focal & tag.  The focal is a stamp from the October 2019 Cardmaking and Papercraft Magazine - set called Christmas Cuties. I stamped it in black (VersaFine) and then embossed it with clear embossing powder.  Then I colored the image using my Scroll & Brush markers & a water brush - embossing between colors with clear powder since I was coloring on a glossy surface and didn't want the colors to smear or run.  The sentiment was stamped & embossed in the same way using a stamp from a HOTP bulk stamp set I got a long time ago - but is also a part of their Christmas Words set. (I ended up going over the embossing with a black Sharpie since I wanted a bold black color and for some reason stamping on top of the green background dulled the black ink I used for stamping.) The focal is matted on a white mat die cut with a Spellbinders die from the set called Decorative Labels Twenty-Two.

Inside:

Inside are more of the papers, a couple more die cuts from the kit.  Once again I used a stamp (Christmas Vintage Labels One from JustRite) with black ink & heat embossing to add the sentiment - once again enhancing the letters with a black Sharpie marker.

Card #2:

Here I used an embossing folder & ink to create the background.  The embossing folder (Snowflake Swirl by Darice) was only an A2 size, so I used it twice - side by side - to emboss the whole card front on this 5" x 6.5" card.  The focal is from the kit, but I stamped the image (another stamp from Christmas Cuties) and colored it with my Scroll & Brush markers.  The embellishments top and bottom are die cuts from the kit, but the were from a long border piece which I cut apart.  The sentiment is hand lettered on a tag that was cut using a die from Bonjour Paris (Sizzix). As I look at it, I think it might be better to go back over the letters with a black pen.

Inside:

Inside the paper, sentiment, and embellishments are all straight from the kit, except that the embellishments were cut from the long border strip.

Card #3:

This card is shaped using another HOTP template - this one from Design Tool Kit #2 (after I first glued the paper to the card front (paper from the kit). The focal is a die cut from the kit, but I stamped, embossed, and colored the deer (as I did on the 1st card) using a HOTP Small Stamp called Small Reindeer.   This is matted on a piece of gold poster board cut with a Spellbinders Gold Labels Four die.  The sentiment is as it came from the kit, but I matted it on red.

Inside:

I don't usually completely fill the inside of the card like I did here.  The tree is a stamp from the same bulk stamp set/Christmas Words set from HOTP.  I colored it with my Scroll & Brush markers, and with an Inktense pencil (without water this time).  The sentiment is a die cut from the kit, but I added the stamped/embossed greeting (also from Christmas Words).
