More HD Little Book of Memorable Moments

Today I have 4 cards made from 4 pages out of Hunkydory's Little Book of Memorable Moments.  You can see the 4 pages I chose in the picture below:

And here's a pic of all 4 cards I made:

Card #1:

I wanted to put the focus on the two teddy bears, so I sliced the LB page so the trees would form borders of sorts.  I matted each on a piece of gold poster board from my stash, and then glued the two side pieces to the card base (made from brown card stock from my stash).  Before adding the focal pieces with foam tape, I tied twine around it.  I fussy cut a sentiment from the HD Decoupage book called Teddy Loves and matted it on a scrap of the same gold poster board.

Inside:

Inside I started with a rectangle of blue marbled paper to look a bit like sky. Then a tore a strip of green marbled paper to form grass and inked the top edge before gluing it in place.  I added a couple of lady bug stickers to mimic the ladybugs on the card front, then fussy cut a couple of teddy bear stickers from my stash (that were so old the glue had dried up) and added them to the scene.  Finally, I added a couple of stamped sentiments - the first from HOTP Stamp & Punch set, the 2nd from CCC's (Crafter's Companion Compendium) page called With Love.

Card #2:

For this one, I cut the focal out of the LB page using a heart shaped die (Stitched Hearts nesting dies by Creative Dies Designs), then cut out 3 more small heart shapes with another die from the set.  For each, I matted them on white card stock and set them aside.  The I found a piece of tan card stock that was as close to the color of the dogs as I could find.  Before using it as a mat, I die cut the sentiment from the center of it - cutting the mat from a piece of white from my stash.  Die used was Moonstone's Happy Anniversary Mini's.  I glued the remaining piece of the LB page to the tan mat - then tied a piece of red embroidery floss around it before gluing in place on the card front.  Then I added all the hearts and the die cut sentiment with foam tape.

Inside:

I used that same small heart cutting die to cut 3 more hearts from the white and 2 from a scrap of blue I had in my stash that matched the color in the card front.  As you can see, I made a border with a scrap of the tan & the small hearts.  Finally, I stamped my sentiment - stamp from CCC's With Love.

Card #3:

I LIKE this one!  You can look back at the LB page I started with and see how it looked.  I must admit I wasn't very excited about it.  The picture didn't grab me and I didn't know what to do with it.  But, after scrolling online to see what other people have done with LB pages, I was inspired to try cutting pieces out of it.  As you can see, I triple matted them - since I wanted the blue, but needed white on both sides of it to make it look good.  I found the sentiment in my stash (from one of my mom's stamp & die sets).  I thought of fussy cutting the double mat - then realized a rectangle would look just fine and save me a bunch of work.

Inside:

Even though I cut the blue mats for the various cut outs & sentiment from the piece I cut from the inside of the frame, I still had VERY little left of the blue - and I wanted some on the inside.  I had these 3 strips in varying lengths, and decided they could work together to form a border.  The stamp is from CCC's Birthday-Female.

Card #4:

This time I took a gold panel & die cut a frame from it using a die from Spellbinders set called Labels Ten.  That framed my teddy bears nicely, and the die cut greeting (again, Moonstone's Happy Anniversary Minis) went well - as did the marbled blue paper I put behind it all.  But it was just SO PLAIN!  I decided I wanted to add flower accents like she had in her hair.  I didn't have anything exactly like that in my stash, but I like what I found - and rhinestone centers completed the look nicely.

Inside:

The next question was what to do about the inside.  I decided on a strip of the same marbled blue, but really felt the need to add pink.  As you can see, I found some narrow strips of pink in my stash that look great top & bottom - then added a couple more flowers.  They needed centers, but rhinestones would be too bulky and likely mess up the card front.  Instead, I used silver holographic jewel dazzles.  A stamped greeting from CCC's With Love stamp sheet completed the inside.

Just Because Color Me

Today I decided to work on the challenge to use up some of my ColorMe toppers.  I don't think I'll try to do more than this one, but at least I managed one!

The fancy background is a fussy cut ColorMe topper from HOTP.  The bulk was inked with Broken China distress ink (inking done with round foam applicator).  The feather was Peeled Paint distress ink.  The green & yellow on the border was colored in with my Scroll & Brush markers.  The sentiment was first colored with Spun Sugar distress ink, and then the edges done with Picked Raspberry distress oxide ink.  I fussy cut both the background and the sentiment (which I added with foam tape).  The focal was made from two pieces of a Hunkydory Picture Perfect page that a friend gave me.  I cut the bird piece with a Spellbinder's Labels One die, then sliced the top off so it would fit fairly well on the background piece but below the border.  Then I took a piece that had several flowers, fussy cut them, and added them in a collage fashion.

Inside:

To make the border, I took a plain strip of white card stock, drew lines with a fine-line black Sharpie, and then colored it to somewhat match what was on the card front.  After gluing the border in place, I added another piece from the Picture Perfect set - after I rounded the corners.  Then I stamped a sentiment (from Crafter's Companion Compendium - page called With Sympathy).

Birthdays

Today I have several birthday cards made using Hunkydory Pop-a-Toppers pages - for young and not so young kids.  Most are from the set called Play Time, but the cat ones are from It's a Cat's and Dog's Life.

Card #1 (above):  One of the first questions that has to be asked when using these is, "What background papers are we going to use?" (since Pop-a-Toppers only have sentiment, focal, and embellishment die cuts)  I saw the black and white dotted border & immediately thought of some black and white dotted paper I had.  Then as I was looking at the stars, I remembered some AS (Adoreable Scoreable - printed card stock from Hunkydory) that I had left over from a Christmas set and thought - that would work great with this!  So, on the card front, all of the background is from that leftover AS EXCEPT the black and white border pieces (the border wasn't long enough to do top and bottom, but you wouldn't know it because the missing parts of the bottom one are hidden by the greeting.)   I backed the focal frame with black and white dotted paper from my stash - and added a sliver of a banner on the side so it would fit a challenge I was working on.  The focal itself is added with foam tape for dimension - as are the two sentiment pieces.

Inside:

On the inside, I used more scraps of AS and  dotted paper.  I also used a piece of the remaining border die cut at the top, from which I "hung" a sentiment using thin line stickers.  I wanted a piece of silver between the dotted paper and the AS at the bottom, so added a scrap from my stash.  I finished this border by adding a die cut embellishment.  Then I stamped a sentiment using a stamp from Crafter's Companion Compendium (CCC) - from the page called Celebrate.

Card #2:

For the background on this card, I chose a turquoise card base and some golden fur AS.  I cut the AS so the card base showed around the focal and border.  I added ribbon near where I glued the border, then added focal and it's frame (focal added with foam tape).  A round brad at the upper corner makes sure it meets the specifications of a challenge on the message board I frequent.  Then I found a coordinating tag from one of my HD Little Book of Essential Sentiments pages.  I added ribbon to this as well.

Inside:

Inside I have leftover pieces of AS - the bottom edge that was cut off, and the center that was cut out for the focal.  As you can see, I wrapped ribbon around both.  For the focal piece, I ran two pieces through holes in my sentiment (stamped & die cut using my Mom's stamps & dies) after I inked the white card stock to coordinate with the blue.  Finally, I cut a cat sticker from my stash and added it by the sentiment.

Card #3:

Here's a second cat card - this one using a bunch of scraps I found on my work table to complement the HD focal, and an odd-sized card made to fit a stray envelope I found.  The card when folded measures 3 3/4" x 6 1/4" - made from card stock from my stash.  To this I added a strip of brown before embossing the front of the card with a Cuttlebug embossing folder called African Weave.  Then I added the little scraps of printed digi paper that form the borders top & bottom.  The focal frame is glued directly to the card, while the focal itself was added with foam tape.  I added a little banner in the top left-hand corner, along with an enamel dot (so it would fit a challenge I was working on).  The sentiment is from a freebie digi print - fussy cut and raised with foam tape.

Inside:

A couple of simple brown strips form borders on the inside, along with a stamped sentiment (CCC - Celebrate).

Card #4:

This card has LOTS of layers - pink card base and pink mats, black and white star paper, pink patterned paper, black and white dotted paper, and silver holographic.  The pink/black/silver around the black and white pattern was a frame which I cut apart diagonally at the corners.  The black/white/silver border at the bottom was a die cut from the set.  The "Congratulations" was just a printed die cut from my stash.  The focal and birthday sentiment were both from the set and added with foam squares.

Inside:

Black and white paper formed borders top and bottom on the inside.  The pink/black/silver across the bottom one is a border from the set.  Three more die cuts decorate the inside.  Once again I stamped the message using a stamp from CCC - Celebrate.

Card #5:

And now for some masculine cards.  Here's the first.  I made it as a fold back card.  I wanted to pull in a variety of the colors in the die cuts I had - focal, frame, and sentiment - so went to my scrap drawers to see what I could find.  I ended up using scraps in 3 colors - and a couple of star punches in different sizes. The large red star and the die cut sentiment are both on foam tape.  Obviously, I only glued half of the focal and frame so that the card would open.

Opened:

As you can see, I added a stamped message on the inside - from CCC Birthday-Male using Faded Jeans Distress Oxide Ink.

Card #6:

Here's another Fold Back Card - this time with a scooter for a focal.  The red/gold paper is scraps from a "handmade" paper I got years ago at Costco.  The blue is also scrap from my stash - though not from Costco (not sure where I got it).  As you can see, I matted the blue on white & then used that to mat the focal & frame.  I added two sentiment pieces from the set - but only the round one is up on foam tape. I again punched stars for additional interest, but chose to hide most of them behind the focal until the card is open.

Opened:

Again the stamped sentiment is from CCC - Birthday-Male.

Card #7:

The last one of these that I need to make for awhile - YAY!  This one combines the remaining pieces from the Pop-a-Topper page with misc - mostly scraps - from my stash.  Only the focal and the word "cool" were from the Pop-a-Topper - the rest was from my stash.  Focal and greetings were added with foam tape - everything else was just glued in place.

Inside:

As you can see, I've used scraps from the card front - and a couple misc corner pieces from my stash to help decorate the inside.  Again the stamped sentiment is from CCC - Birthday-Male.

HD Heavenly Wishes - Winter Wishes

Today I have several cards from another beautiful Hunkydory card kit.  This one is called Heavenly Winter, and the set I'm working with today is called Winter Wishes.  Here's what the set looks like:

As you can see, there was one sheet of die cuts, and two sheets of Adoreable Scoreable printed card stock (AS).  In addition, I used a few pieces from this additional die cut sheet that goes with all the sets:

Here's a picture of the 7 cards I got from this set:

Now let's look at each card a bit closer.

Card #1:

As you can see, this first card is a side step card.  After cutting and scoring the card base as needed, I cut out a piece from the lower left corner of the AS sheets for the card front.  Then I cut more pieces along the borders (some from the bottom border, some from the top border) to go on each step.

Next, before gluing the AS in place, I found a scrap of ribbon in my stash and wrapped it around the top border - adding a second "knotted" piece & a tag to cover a messy part on the salvaged ribbon.  I added another couple of small die cuts - the lower one I inked around the edges first.

Inside, I added more scraps from the AS border, another die cut that I inked around the edges. Finally a stamped a message using a stamp from a CCC (Crafter's Companion Compendium) sheet called Warmest Wishes.

Card #2:

Next up is another card front cut from that first AS sheet.  I trimmed some off the bottom so that I had border top and bottom of my 5 X 7 card.  I cut a frame from gold poster board to form a mat around the outside.  The smaller frame, focal, and sentiment were all from the set.

Inside:

Another piece of the AS - matted on gold - forms a lower border.  The sentiment is from CCC - the page called Believe in the Magic.

Card #3:

My Mom brought over an embossing folder for us to use, and it was PERFECT for use with this set!  It's a 3-D embossing folder of poinsettias, but I'm not sure who made it.  Anyway, I decided to try it with a center piece of the other sheet of AS.  It embossed so beautifully!  Actually, technically, it was de-bossed since I put the AS in the folder upside down.  Then, as you can see, I inked the edges & the raised portion.  It turned out REALLY beautiful.  Then I just added frame, focal, and tag die cuts from the sheet - adding a ribbon from my stash.

Inside:

Inside is another of the pieces from the extra sheet - again with edges inked.  This is placed behind another piece of de-bossed and inked AS.  The sentiment is another from CCC's Believe in the Magic.

Card #4:

This card is really simple - but still elegant.  I took one side of the 2nd AS sheet, inked the edges, and turned it on it's side for this slim line card.  I simply added a die cut greeting (a die called Season's Greetings from Creative Expressions).

Inside:

Inside was also very straightforward - just a simple stamped message (again using a stamp from CCC's Believe in the Magic).

Card #5:

Next up is another slimline card.  This time I inked the background using a circular stencil (The Crafter's Workshop - Mini Solace) multiple times.   You can get a better idea of the original stencil from the inside of the card.

Inside:

Inside I have the stenciled portion and a stamped message (CCC - Believe in the Magic).

Card #6:

Here I've embossed the card front using a Gemini embossing folder called Scattered Holly.  Then I inked over the embossing with brown ink & then gold ink.  Then I simply added the die cuts from the set - putting the focal on foam tape for added dimension.  The tag at the top is from the set - the tag at the bottom from a Hunkydory Little Book of Essential Christmas Sentiments.

Inside:

I cut strips from scraps from the die cut sheet so they would have the gold edge.  I then embossed and inked them as for the front.  An additional die cut tag from the set decorates the inside - along with a stamped sentiment from my big sheet of no-name Christmas greetings.

Card #7:

This final card is a fold back card.  The background paper is printed from a digital download.  The focal and frame are only glued to the left side, so the card can be pulled open.  The sentiment is another from the little book, and a twine bow completes the card front.

Inside:

Inside is another strip of the digi paper forming a border on the left side. The stamped greeting is another from the large no-name Christmas set.

5 More National Parks

Today I have a page for each of the 5 additional National Parks that we visited this summer.  It's nice to get them finished so soon after we got back from our trip.

Page #1 (above): I started with an old patterned paper from HOTP.  It already had a printed inset section like what I wanted for this layout - and it was in the right colors.   The elements in the lower corners were stickers that I matted on black.  The trapezoid is a fussy cut photo of the carpet as you enter the visitor's center.  I have several other photos - and some computer journaling.  The title was die cut from some black sticky-backed vinyl, adhered to a scrap strip of white photo paper, with corners rounded.

Page #2:

This page started as a piece of black card stock.  I added a strip of patterned paper to the top & bottom, but before I did that, I printed my journaling on the top strip.  Unfortunately, it didn't print correctly for some reason, so I had to go over it with a black marker.  What a pain!

I like to have the park brochure on my page - but seldom have room for it.  You can see the little semi-circle cut out.  That is so folks can pull out the brochure if they want to look at it, but otherwise it is tucked away leaving room for other things.  It's easy to do.  I simply take a standard business-size envelope, glue the flap shut, cut off one end leaving a piece about the length of the brochure, use a circle punch to punch a half circle, and stick the brochure in there.  Then I simply cut a matching cut-out on the scrapbook page itself, and glue the envelope with brochure to the back of the page.  Easy peasy.

Other than that, I have mostly my photos on this page.  I printed them with frames around them.  The title is actually simply a picture that was blown up and cropped from the picture you see in the lower right corner.

Page #3:

For this page I fussy cut a picture of the entry sign and let it serve as my title.  The small picture below that and the bottom set of journaling in the lower right corner are stickers.  The rest are pictures.  As you can see, I usually simply cut them with a bit of a white border to give them a fake mat.  For this page, though, I chose to mat my journaling and the focal photo with dark brown card stock.  The background is a page of printed grass that I've had forever because I thought it would come in handy, but found it isn't as easy to use as I expected!

Page #4:

Cuyahoga Valley National Park - quite straight forward - green printed background looks like what we saw on the water at the marsh.  NP Stickers are the left-center column. Pictures and computer printed journaling tell the story.  Brochure is a pull tab in the top/center.

Page #5:

Indiana Dunes National Park - Once again pictures and computer journaling tell the stories.  The picture in the upper left corner is the park sticker.  The words on the upper right corner are from the backing paper from that sticker.   The title was die cut from brown sticky-back vinyl - stuck to a strip of white card stock with corners rounded.  Again there's a brochure you can pull from the center top.
