Mini Scrapbook with lots of pockets

Today's mini-book is based on a set of videos/instructions by scrappinrabbit that I found on-line.  They are very detailed and helpful.  Here are the links:

Materials/Instructions - Card stock from my stash, patterned papers are old ones from HOTP

Pages:

  • Base page front (cut 6 from card stock): 4”w x 6-1/2”h - score at 1/2" on each short side, fold & press.
  • Base page back (cut 6 from card stock): 4”w x 5-1/2”h - apply adhesive to flaps of base page front & adhere to base page back.  This creates a double-sided page that is open in between.
  • Horizontal pockets on pages 1 and 7 (cut 2 from card stock or heavy paper): 5”w x 3”h - can use punch across top of pocket piece to decorate it.  Score at 1/2" on other 3 sides.  Cut out corner at a slight angle so cut out piece is a bit larger than the corner, and cut off the edge at the top where it was punched.  Fold on score lines; press and apply adhesive before putting pocket in place on bottom of page.
  • Corner pockets on pages 3 and 9 (cut 2 from card stock or heavy paper): 3”w x 3”h - Score at 1/2" on two adjoining sides and cut out corner where the two score lines intersect with slight angle as for horizontal pockets.  Fold & press, then cut from corner to corner between score lines & then trim top of flaps even with corner cut.  Add adhesive to flaps before adhering pocket to the lower right corner of page.
  • Vertical pockets on pages 5 and 11 (cut 2 from card stock or heavy paper): 2 1/4”w x 6-1/2”h - Use punch along one long edge.  Then score at 1/2" on other 3 edges.  Trim out corners & upper sides as for horizontal pockets.  Fold & press along score lines, then apply adhesive to the flaps & put in place on the right side of the page.
  • Flaps on pages 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 (cut 6 from card stock): 4-1/4”w x 5-1/2”h - Score at 3/8" along one long edge; fold & press.  Apply adhesive to 3/8" piece and glue in place to the BACK of the right side of the page.
  • Pull-out tags (cut 6 from card stock): 4-1/8”w x 5-1/8”h (or a little wider if your punch cuts some off at the top) - Punch a fancy edge along one long side.  These will go in the side pocket of each page once the pages are adhered in the album.
  • Pieces to go inside pockets: cut from card stock - any size/shape desired & place in pockets if you wish
  • Pocket inside the back cover: 5-1/4”w x 3”h from card stock (optional) - Make the same way as other horizontal pockets (or skip the punching if you wish).
  • Papers for decorating pages as you choose - can add decorative papers: to page front page with piece sticking part way into pockets, on front of pockets, on flaps & back page, etc.
  • Pictures, stickers, tags, quotes, journaling, etc - as you wish to complete the pages.

Hinges (cut one of each size below):

  • Narrow Hinge: 1-3/8”w x 5-1/4”h - score at 1/2" along long edges, fold & press
  • Middle Hinge: 2-1/8”w x 5-1/4”h - score at 1/2" along long edges, fold & press
  • Wide Hinge: 2-7/8”w x 5-1/4”h - score at 1/2" along long edges, fold & press
  • Base: 2-5/8”w x 5-1/4”h
  • Assemble Hinges: 1) Put paper backed adhesive in between folded edges on each of the first 3 hinges with adhesive close to the edges and in between (make sure you leave the folded edges free).  2) With scored flaps sticking straight up on both pieces, take the narrow hinge and align on the middle hinge 3/8" from folded edge and adhere in place, leaving 4 loose flaps. 3) In a similar way, align this assembled piece on the wide hinge - again carefully aligning it 3/8" from folded edge - and adhere in place.  Now you have 6 loose flaps.  Now you will glue this on the base - again 3/8" from the side.  Set aside.

Album Covers, Spine, and Finishing:

  • Covers (cut 2 from chipboard or corrugated cardboard): 4-3/4”w x 6”h
  • Spine (cut 1 from chipboard or corrugated cardboard): 2-5/8”w x 6”h
  • Hinge Protector (cut one from plastic or Tvvek): 6 1/2"w x 6"h
  • Cover Wrappers (cut 2 from patterned paper): 5-3/4”w x 8”h
  • Spine Wrapper (cut one from card stock (embossed is good) or good quality scrapbook paper): 5”w x 8”h
  • Ribbon for tying book closed (optional)
  • Assemble Album Cover & Spine1) Completely cover one side of the spine with adhesive. Adhere in center of hinge protector leaving equal amounts on each side of spine and aligning top and bottom with top & bottom of hinge protector.  Rub with bone folder to adhere completely.  2) Add covers - one on each side of spine - leaving approximately 1/4" between.  Again adhere, rubbing with bone folder to thoroughly stick the hinge protector to the covers.  3) Add cover wrappers to covers - adding plenty of adhesive to front of cover, then to edges - wrapping edges around tightly (do corners first).  Rub everything thoroughly so cover wrappers are thoroughly adhered to covers. 4) If adding a ribbon, cut a piece large enough to go around the book and then tie a bow. Glue in place just on spine.  5) Measure & mark a line where one side of the spine wrapper should attach, so it can be centered & straight when when you adhere it.  Once again, adhere tightly, first to the spine & cover wrappers, keeping ribbon ends free, and then wrapping around tightly and adhering spine wrapper tightly in place.
  • Add Pages to Inside of Cover: 1) Glue assembled hinge to the inside of the spine, centered top to bottom and aligned to the left side of the spine.  2) Place paper backed adhesive along top of each side of hinge flaps.  3) Fold a little of the paper adhesive protector for easy access before sliding a page over hinge - making sure the page is oriented correctly (pocket in front with flap facing back of book)!  Carefully align bottom of page against spine and slowly pull off adhesive protector and press.  On other side, fish out paper adhesive protector and press that side - one page added.  Repeat with other 5 pages.
  • Finishing: Measure and cut two pieces of paper or card stock to fit the inside of each cover - bringing it 1/8" from the first pages so it covers part of the hinge.  If using card stock, score it where it will crease to close and fold/press.  Put adhesive on both sides of score line, and all the rest of the finishing pieces and adhere them in place.  Add other decorations to the front of the book as desired. As you can see in the picture above, I added a border strips of "jewels".
