Beverage Swap

I should have taken a picture that showed the dimension better, but I don't have the energy right now to go get set up to take another.  Today's card is for a July swap called "beverage swap".  While I don't drink alcohol, you can usually get a virgin cocktail at places like this!  

Materials used were a Mini Bricks stencil from The Crafter's Workshop, Inks from my stash, and 3 Little Book of High Street pages - along with acetate & adhesives including foam tape.

I started by stenciling a brick background - but unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) turned the stencil 90 degrees from what I had intended.  Then I glued one little book page to a piece of card stock & cut out the center.  After tracing the resulting window onto my card front, I cut out an aperture on the card front.  Then I cut a piece of acetate slightly larger than the window & glued to the back of the little book page (that had been glued to card stock & cut).  I used foam tape to adhere this to the card front, centering it over the aperture.  Then I took parts of a second identical little book page, glued it to card stock & cut out the table, chairs, drinks on the table, and awning and added them - some with foam tape for dimension.  Finally I cut the "EVERY HOUR IS" from another little book page and added it across the corner of the window.

Inside:

Inside I first attached the cut out piece with all the drinks & bottles, centering it so that it was behind the acetate window and could be seen from the front of the card.  Above this I glued the words "Happy Hour" - cut from the same page as the words on the card front.  However, I had to go over the words with a yellow marker to change the pink to more of an orange so it coordinated with the card better! That completed my card.

July Materials Swap - Birds

 

Once again I have a card created for a materials swap.  As I've mentioned before, this is where we create a card - saving a set of duplicate materials to send to a swap partner.  This time the theme was "BIRDS".  And here is the set of materials I used in creating this card:

The set of supplies includes: 3 papers - two I had in my stash from HOTP, and one that I printed from a Crafts U Print freebie.  I added another small paper that I stamped on - from a Fiskars Special Delivery stamp set.  Then there was a Hunkydory Little Book page from the Little Book of Memorable Moments.  Then I added a couple of sentiments and a border from a Hunkydory Cute & Cuddly Whopper Topper book.  The last thing is a 20" or so piece of thin white string.

Card Front:

And here's the card I made with those materials.  As you can see, I fussy cut various elements of the little book page to create my own scene using the "sky" colored printed paper.  I matted this on the dark yellow dotted paper, then the lighter yellow gingham.  I finished the card front by trimming the silver foiling off the sentiments, then adding them as you see in the picture.

Inside:

Inside I used leftover scraps, and the border piece (from which I also removed the silver foiling) to create some borders top and bottom.  I added the fussy cut balloons from the little book page - to which I added pieces of the string.  I fussy cut the little baby outfit & put it in the bottom right-hand corner before stamping a sentiment to complete the inside of my card.

Next up is the card I made from the materials my swap partner sent to me.  Here's a picture of them:

Before putting the card together, I needed to plan my card so I made good use of my materials - since it's against the rules to add anything other than ink or other media or adhesives.  

First, I needed to decide how to use the card stock panel & focal panel.  I decided that most of the card stock panel would be used for the inside of the card, but I needed to cut out a section of it so it would fit properly.  I saved the strip I cut out of it to use for the bottom of the card front.  

 

Next, I wanted to die cut some greetings from the brown mat material - cutting them from portions that would be covered by the other elements of the card.  Dies used were Stacked Happy Birthday from Creative Expressions and 5 x 7 Card and Box set by Card Making Magic.

 

Then I was ready to put together the card front.  First the brown background was glued in place - then the leftover strip of card stock from the inside.  Next, I put foam tape on the back of the focal (which I had glued to a piece of white card stock and then trimmed to the size I wanted), and placed it as you see.  Finally, I added the buttons.

Inside, I simply added the modified printed card stock piece - and then added the greeting to the middle of it.

Blue Christmas???

 

Today I have 4 cards made from some old HOTP personal shopper card kits. I have a LOT of these left and really want to get them used up so I can focus on using more current supplies. Here are the 4 cards and how I made them.  The first two cards were made using one kit, and the 2nd two were from another.  Each kit was designed to make 1 card, but I can't stand to waste materials so . . .

Card #1 (above): The sentiments were cut outs.  The kit consisted of 3 small papers - two of which I used here - and several cut outs.  I layered cut outs for the "happy".  Then I took some snowflake die cuts I had cut from pearlized vellum (Spellbinders Dimensional Snowflaks - Cut/Fold/Tuck), backed them with blue, and fussy cut around them.

Inside:

As you can see, on the inside I simply added more of the papers & another cut out from the kit.

Card #2: (same kit as card #1)

I hadn't used any of the third paper in the kit, so used it for the background of this card with a narrow strip of the blue for a border.  I added narrow border Dazzles on each edge.  The tags, oval & circle were cutouts from the kit.  I die cut a bunch of snowflakes and the sentiment using the Moonstone die set called Splendid Snowflakes.

Inside:

Inside I added leftover bits of all 3 papers, 3 more circle cutouts from the kit, and several more snowflake die cuts (from the same Moonstone set).

Card #3:

This kit was designed to make a shaped card - but I didn't feel like going to all that work!  The front panel is as it was in the kit.  I drew in a carrot nose (since I didn't have the brad that went with the kit), and added a fussy cut hand (on the sign) and hat with foam tape.  The buttons were die cut in white (someone sent them to me) & then colored in an ink that coordinated with the whole.  I added pen faux stitching around the buttons & in the button holes.

Inside:

Inside I added coordinating paper scraps & tag.

Card #4:

The background paper is from the kit, as are the sentiment cutouts.  The diamond-shaped mat for the focal sentiment was double cut using papers from my stash and a Spellbinders Labels One die set.

Inside:

 Scraps of paper and the last sentiment cutout from the kit completes this card.

HD A Sparkling Season - Family Fun Part 2

Today I have the last of the Hunkydory Kit - A Sparkling Season and coordinating 8 x 8 book.   I finished up the set called Family Fun.  As a reminder, here are the pictures of the set:

Last time I used the peach/aqua colored pieces, and this time I finished with the purple/blue pieces.  Here are the 8 cards and one tag that I made this time:

And now I'll take a look at each card more closely.  For most of the cards, there are simply strips of scraps or AS on the inside, so I didn't bother getting pictures.  When there was something more interesting on the inside, you'll see a picture of it.

Card #1:

This is the first of three slim line cards (3 3/4" x 9" to fit some envelopes I have on hand).  I started with a 3 1/2" wide strip of an 8 x 8 page.  The border at the bottom was a leftover piece of the AS (Adoreable Scoreable card stock from the set).  The two penguins were cut outs from the 8 x 8 book.  The stamped message (HOTP bulk Christmas set) was embossed in clear embossing powder to keep it from smearing on the slick background.

Card #2:

Here I took a strip from the AS & added a border piece to the top of it.  A cut out tag was all that was needed to complete the card.

Card #3:

Here a piece of AS forms a backdrop for a strip of 8 x 8 paper.  I added the cut out penguin, a border strip of purple velvet ribbon, a punched out tag (from the set) and a purple Jewel Dazzle to "hold" it in place.

Card #4:

This fourth card is the first of three 5 x 7 cards.  Here's a piece of an 8 x 8 paper cut as a background paper with just a narrow border of white formed by the card base.  I added a border strip of holographic paper that I got at a dollar store, and two die cut pieces from the set - a sentiment and a penguin focal.

Card #5:

Here is another piece cut from the 8 x 8 papers - I simply added a bit of twine for a border "holding" the cut out tag.

Card #6:

The last 5 x 7 is again a cut piece of the 8 x 8 paper - with a mat and border cut from pink holographic paper I got at the dollar store.  A cut out tag & penguin were added.  I thought the penguin looked so lonely that a "Miss You" stamped/embossed sentiment seemed in order (JustRite's Enjoy the Day).

Card #7:

My last two cards are 5 x 6 1/2" in size. This one is cut from an 8 x 8 paper.  All I added was the twine border & the stamped/embossed sentiment (HOTP bulk Christmas set).

Inside:

Inside is just a strip of the AS - but is a bit more interesting because of the printed scene.

Back:

I don't usually add much to the back of a card, but this time I discovered that I had somehow gotten a big streak of ink on the back of the card and needed to cover it up.  I didn't have a strip wide enough to go the whole way across, so I added a little cutout penguin (both from 8 x 8 book) to draw the eye away from the bit of ink that could still be seen on the other edge.  Then I added a stamped message to finish the back of the card.

Card #8:

I put the most work into this last card, but it still was pretty simple.  I added a focal with double frame - all die cuts from the set but at different heights.  The focal was raised with fairly thin foam tape, the inner frame was glued directly to the card front, and the outer frame was raised on thicker foam tape.

I tried to get a picture of the different thicknesses, but I'm not sure you can really tell from the picture.

Inside:

Inside, along with two strips of AS for borders, I added a couple of tags - one cut out from the 8 x 8 book, and the other a die cut from the set - both "attached" with Jewel Dazzles.

Tag:

I add a little bit of printed AS left, that I made into a tag.  I stamped/embossed a rabbit image on it (Heartfelt Creations - Woodsy Critters)

And there you have it - a total of 63 beautiful cards (and one tag) from this Hunkydory Kit and coordinating 8 x 8 book!  In some ways I'm sorry to see the kit used up, but I LOVED working with these beautiful materials!
