Easel Cards Class 2

Today I have four cards - made from two different half sheets of designer series paper (DSP) called Marbled Elegance.  I also used stamps and dies from the Hearts of Elegance bundle.  I'm using up some of my stash, so both papers and stamp/die bundle are currently discontinued.  However, there are plenty of materials currently available that would work well.  Try this paper, and this stamp/die bundle.

There is a video that shows how I made these cards - here

Card #1 (this is what it looks like when closed):

This card requires 6 heart templates - each about 1/4" smaller than the last.  The biggest thing to watch out for with these hearts, is to make sure that the 3rd and 5th hearts (counting largest to smallest) do NOT dip in too far at the top - otherwise, you'll have trouble with them staying in place for display.

Essentially, the 1st, 3rd, and 5th hearts are created as easel card bases - cut on the fold just shy of the top.  The front of each heart was scored in half horizontally.  I made the largest and smallest from Basic White cardstock, and the middle one from Cherry Cobbler cardstock.  The 2nd, 4th, and 6th hearts are the background papers for each, corresponding larger heart card base.  For this heart, I trimmed the half sheet of patterned paper to 7 1/4".  The 6" x 7 1/4" piece is what I cut all 3 of the background paper hearts from - and I set aside the remaining piece for card #2.  I used the back side of the large and small heart shapeed papers and the front side of the medium one.

After decorating each "card"  using the stamp and die bundle and other items from my stash, I glued the three together.  I glued the back of the medium sized heart to the inside of the large one, aligning them at the tip.  Then I did the same with the small heart, aligning it to the tip of the inside of the medium one.  Finally, I added a much smaller heart as a stopper for the inside of the small heart easel.  The small easel then becomes the stopper for the medium one, and the medium becomes the stopper for the large one.

Again, here's what it looks like when displayed:

The "happy Mother's Day" stamp was from the Flower Cart stamp set - the rest of the stamps and dies used were from Hearts of Elegance. I used Cherry Cobbler ink.

Card #2:

This is how I used the remaining 4 3/4" x 6" of patterned paper.  I simply turned the paper lengthwise and cut 1 1/4" from each side.  These pieces went top and bottom of the card front.  The remaining piece I turned to the back and put in the middle of the card front.  Then I decorated the card.  The doily was from my stash.  The heart was die cut using Hearts of Elegance dies using Real Red cardstock, the "best wishes" was from a Stampin' Up! card kit called Sentimental Rose.  I used Real Red ink.

Card #3:

This card was done pretty much the same way as card #1 - except it used a different paper from the Marbled Elegance DSP.  While it's not easy to tell from this picture, the pattern is a bit more on the pink side.  This means I also changed the color of cardstock used to Melon Mambo.  I used the same Hearts of Elegance stamp and die set - but used different stamps.  I used Melon Mambo ink.

Here's what this one looks like when displayed:

Card #4:

This time I cut the background paper into 6 pieces and inked the edges with Melon Mambo ink - again turning the middle pieces to the back side.  The small hearts (one from white, one from Melon Mambo for matting) were cut using that same Hearts of Elegance die set.  The sentiment was from the So Sincere stamp set.  I finished by adding the ribbon bow, and several small stars from the Gold Shaker Stars assortment.
