Gelatos Background

Here's a third background card - this time made with gelatos.

CARD FRONT:
  • Background - This background was created by scribbling gelatos on card stock and blending them with a baby wipe.   This was overlayed by a black card stock die cut (Banana Leaf by Spellbinders - trimmed a bit on each edge so there was a narrow white border).
  • Sentiment - stamped & heat embossed in black with a decorative frame stamp from Because I Care stamp set (JustRite) & die cut with matching die from Fancy Tags Two (Spellbinders).  "Thanks" is from Leaves Small Stamp (HOTP). Colored with gelatos like the background, with the addition of purple Smooch ink.  This was matted on black card stock & added to the card stock with a piece from an adhesive foam sheet.
  • Embellishing - Butterfly from dollar store
INSIDE: an additional piece of the background was matted on black card stock and embellished with a dollar store butterfly.

Distress Oxide Ink Background

Here's another background card.   This one is made with distress oxide inks - made by daubing distress oxide ink with a foam applicator.

CARD FRONT:
  • Background - black Renaissance Jubilee Roman Trellis die cut (Spellbinders) overlaying the distress oxide ink background.  This was matted on yellow card stock.
  • Sentiment - stamped on a strip of yellow card stock glued over a strip of black card stock.  Stamps used were from Leaves Small Stamps (HOTP), and THANKS for everything (Our Daily Bread)
  • Embellishments - butterfly from the dollar store
INSIDE:

Similarly done, with sentiment from the THANKS for everything (Our Daily Bread)

Color Burst Background

This fun background was made on watercolor paper with Color Burst.  I simply sprinkled the Color Burst powder on the paper & then sprayed with water.  It makes such a bright & pretty background!

CARD FRONT:
  •  Background - In addition to the Color Burst background, there are two die cuts - one black & one white (Renaissance Jubilee Roman Trellis by Spellbinders).  The white one was cut into 1/4's and then each corner was offset a bit behind the black.
  • Sentiment - Vellum from my stash glued to a small piece of white paper
  • Embellishments - Butterfly is a sticker from the dollar store - and several purple sequins finish the look.
INSIDE: The inside is similar - a piece of black card stock & a Color Burst piece, similar butterfly, and sequins.

Thank You Scrap

Here's another card made with scraps I had sitting around.  It feels so good to get those used up!!!!  I'm really not sure where I got the patterned paper.  It's been sitting around for awhile.  I had a little ladybug on a piece of vellum & decided to use it for the focal.  (Not sure where I got that either!)  The sentiment stamp is from the newest "Butterflies" stamp set by HOTP (the pink one). The plain turquoise paper is from my stash - as are the narrow ribbons.  The wide ribbon was from packaging from one of my husband's new shirts!!!

Spectrum Noir #2

Here's the second of my two cards made using Spectrum Noir pens with the "Floral Garden" for Colorists book (HOTP).

CARD FRONT:
  • Background - The background paper is one of my favorites from HOTP (but I don't remember what it's called!).  I cut it slightly smaller than the card front & inked the edges.  I actually laid out everything before gluing it to the front of the card.
  • Borders & Flowers - The brightest orange in these cards was colored with the "Vanilla" pen.  The colors in these pens are not at all what I would have expected by the names (and may be why I was able to purchase them at such a good price from Tuesday Morning).  I colored the borders to coordinate with the flowers (borders were on the same page as the flowers in the Colorists book), and then cut them into strips.  I glued them in place & added a coordinating narrow ribbon to finish off the borders before adding the flowers.
  • Greeting - For the greeting, I used another tag from the same colorists book & colored it to match.  I stamped a greeting ("Fancy Tags" by JustRite) and fussy cut the tag before adding it to the card as you see here.
INSIDE:

Once again, I finished the inside similarly - piece of background paper for border, with another of the colored floral pieces.

Spectrum Noir #1

I recently purchased some Spectrum Noir pens and decided to try them out with the "Floral Garden" for Colorists book from HOTP.  I colored a page that had 6 little floral pieces and a couple of borders and used them to make two cards.  This is the first.

CARD FRONT:

Background - The background is an old HOTP piece of patterned paper that I cut slightly smaller than the card front.  I inked the edges & added a ribbon border before gluing it to the card front.

Flowers - colored with "Lilac" and "Lavender" pens (which clearly are more on the pink side!)

Sentiment - This was another piece from the same Colorists book that I colored & stamped using a stamp from a HOTP stamp set called "Tiny Words & Images".

INSIDE:

As you can see, the inside has more of the background paper & one more of the floral pieces.

Swap Kit #2 - Scrap Card

After finishing the swap card, I had a few scraps of paper, a few embellishments & a stamped message left over.  So, I sliced the scraps into strips & glued them to a piece of paper to create the striped paper you see in the background of this card.  I DID add blue card stock for matting and a card base, but everything else was from the kit.  As you can see, the piece of paper matting the sentiment was die cut (Spellbinder's Fleur De Lis Rectangles).

Here's the inside with more of my specially designed striped paper, stickers, and a bit more blue card stock:

Kit Swap Card #2 (Partner's Kit)

Here's the card I made from the kit my partner sent me.  I made the shaker part with my fuse tool.

Card Front:

Background: After embossing the card front & adding the patterned paper at the bottom, I traced around the edge of the jar die cut - and cut it out (saving the piece I removed for later).

Shaker: I traced around the edge of the jar die cut a second time - this time onto scrap card stock - and used that as the pattern for fusing the edges of a plastic pocket with my fuse tool (leaving the top edge open so I could fill it).  After filling it, I fused the top closed and glued the pocket in place on the back of the card.  I glued the jar to the piece saved from the background.  This goes behind the shaker pocket to finish the look.  To do this well, I use a piece of plain card stock cut just smaller than the card panel.  This will cover everything and help keep it in place.  But before I finish with this, I want to put my greeting in place.

Greeting: I cut the greeting into a banner shape & attached it to the card front as shown.  Then I finished gluing everything in place from the last step (brad legs covered by the plain card stock).

Finishing: I added the jar lid at an angle so it looks like the shaker bits are trying to escape.  I added a strip of black card stock across the bottom to form a border, but before gluing it down, I added the three brads you see on the right-hand side.  After gluing this strip in place, I added some flower stickers to the left side.

Inside:

If I had realized sooner that most of these papers were double-sided, I might have done things differently, but by the time I figured it out, I decided to just use the back side of one to form this diamond shape.  As you can see, I put the greeting on the one side.  Then I cut a pink piece for the bottom, an orange piece for the side, a strip of plain green & a strip of the green I used on the front to form a border.  I cut a diamond shape from the back side of the orange & backed with plain green. After adding a sticker & brad to the center I glued that in place.

My swap partner agreed to let me post pictures of her make here. She did a great job!

Once again she decorated the envelope.  While all the elements are there and the jars look similar, there are more differences between these cards than between the first swap kit cards.  I love the way she fussy cut the scallops.

And on the inside she die cut the orange edge in a scallop.

Kit Swap Card #1 (My Kit)

I LOVE these kit swaps.  Seeing what different people do with the same supplies is SO MUCH FUN!  Two of us made cards from identical kits of supplies that I gathered together:

The kits included a "Color Me Card Topper" from the Chalkboard Greetings set along with misc paper & printed pieces - from HOTP.  Then there were other plain papers/card stock, a card base and envelope, bits of ribbon, some brads, some eyelets, a lacy paper doily & adhesive-backed rhinstones.  One of the pieces of pink paper had a sentiment stamped on it from the JustRite set called "For All You Do Vintage Labels Three".

As you can see from the picture at the top of this post, I made an easel card.  This is what my card front looks like:

And here is the inside:

It was fun to see what my swap partner did with the same supplies.  She did a great job!  It was funny to see how similar the cards were!  My swap partner has agreed to let me post the card she made, so this is her's:

And the inside:

As you can see, our cards are quite similar.  I really like that she decorated the envelope.  I don't tend to think to do that.
