HD Wild at Heart - Pride & Joy

Today's cards were made using Hunkydory's Wild at Heart kit - Pride and Joy set.  From the 1/2 Deco Large set, I got 6 cards!  Here's a look at the set I started with - 1/2 sheet with base piece, border & greetings; 1 sheet with extra layers for base sheet & more greetings; 1 sheet of AS (adorable scoreable printed card stock):

Card #1:

One of the things I found a bit challenging with this set was that all the layers had rounded bottoms - which can look a bit strange on a normal card.  So, I worked to find ways to use them where the rounded shape was more expected.  This card is one of the results. The base card & layers are made using dies from Card Making Magic's Octagon Box Kit set of dies.  The green layer is paper from my stash.  The blue and blue/green layers are white card stock colored with Distress inks (Broken China & Mowed Lawn).  The sentiment was from my stash - probably cut from a Debbi Moore set.  The focal was, of course, from the HD set.

Inside:

I colored the inside with both colors of distress inks & added this sentiment from my stash.

Card #2:

Next up is a slimline card.  The focal is cut from the AS, as is the top border.  The bottom border was leftover from another set in this kit, and the border is from this set - as is the sentiment.  The baby lion is die cut from this set.  Both it and the sentiment were added with foam tape.

Inside:

Inside I started with border strips cut from the scraps of the die cut sheet.  I inked the edges and glued them in place.  The lion head embellishment is from the set.  The "Happy" was die cut from gold metallic poster board using a Spellbinders' die from the Joyous Celebrations Sentiment collection.  The word "birthday" was one large die cut from a HOTP collection that I fussy cut into individual letters and arranged as you see them here (after inking the edges).

Card #3:

Here's another slimline card.  The background here is cut from the AS piece that came with the set.   The focal is a collage of pieces cut from the die cut sheet & a border strip.  The sentiment is from the set.

Inside:

By the time I got to the inside of this one it was pretty slim pickings!  So, I used a piece cut from a Debbi Moore set, matted it on a die cut piece from an old HOTP set which had been inked to help color correct.

Card #4:

Here's the other special card shape I decided to use with these curved die cut pieces.  This is a diorama - base card & gold mat piece cut with the diorama cutting dies set from Divinity Designs.  As you can see, I have several of the die cut pieces forming the layers on the inside - and a sentiment from the set on the outside.  Here's another view to help show the dimension.

Card #5:

I decided to make this one as an easel card.  The focal, corners, and sentiment in upper left are all from the set.  The other sentiment is cut from a Debbi Moore set.

As Easel - showing part of the inside:

The inside easel stopper is a die cut piece from an old HOTP kit.  I raised it on foam tape over a gold poster board border strip.

Card #6:

This last card uses the picture on the AS - and is matted with a very narrow gold poster board mat.  I added a pieced border to the top which has border pieces, a sentiment, and one of the corners all from the kit.  These pieces are layered on top of a border strip cut from the scraps of the die cut page.

Inside:

The bottom border was leftover from another set in this kit.  The top border is a strip of scrap from the die cut sheet, a sentiment from the set, and a die-cut lion head from the set.

HD Wild at Heart - Giraffe Safari

Today I finished another Hunkydory set.  This is from the kit called Wild at Heart and the set called Giraffe Safari.  As you can see, I got 5 cards from this set.  Here is what the set looked like when I started:

You may notice that one of the giraffe pieces is missing.  I used it a couple of years ago on the inside of an elephant card.  Here are the five cards up close:

Card #1:

This is the basic image that was intended for use as the base for multiple layers of giraffes - but I chose to use them individually so I got 5 cards instead of 1 or two.

Inside:

I decided the outer part of the base piece worked well for the inside of this card.

Card #2:

The focal on this card was the biggest layer.  As you can see, I paired it with green AS (Adorable Scoreable cardstock from the kit - leftover from my zebra set), framed it with gold, and added a couple of corner pieces from the set.  A sentiment from the set & border sticker strip from my stash finish this one.

Inside:

I didn't have the right size of scrap from the green, so found a similar green in my stash & paired it with scraps from the set to create a border for the inside.

Card #3:

I used a Darice embossing folder for this one called Brick Wall.  I thought it sort of mimicked the spots on the giraffe.  The focal is actually composed of 3 pieces on top of the gold mat.  There's a light green AS piece (again left over from the zebra set), a giraffe piece, and an extra set of rocks (lower left corner).  That, with the greeting, completes this card front.

Inside:

Inside I have borders made from more of the green AS & a border from the set.

Card #4:

The sentiment on this one says "Stand Tall - believe in yourself", so I felt it only fitting to make it into a tall card.  I started with a piece of AS (from THIS set this time!) and matted it on gold.  The focal image was one where the back of the large giraffe was missing a leg, so I figured it was a perfect time to cut off part of the image.  I lined the piece up with the border, then trimmed even with the edge.  I added another border near the top using scraps from my stash and finished it off with a sentiment.

Inside:

Inside is pretty simple.  I strip of the paper used for the border on the front, and a border from the set.

Card #5:

This card front was cut from the main piece of AS that came in this set.  I thought it was a beautiful scene and took care to cut it so the bulk of it fit on the card front.  I didn't feel it needed much, so I just inked the edges and added a banner sentiment I made with a scrap from my stash - cut with a Sizzix die from their Bonjour Paris set.  The sentiment was stamped from JustRite's Grand Sentiments.

Inside:

Inside is simply a border cut from the AS.

HD Peony Promise - Love Blossoms Part 1

These cards were all made from the Hunkydory kit called Peony Promises - the set called Love Blossoms & the coordinating pages from the Little Book of the same name.  In the above picture you see what the set looked like before I started: I cut up the AS (Adorable Scoreable) for several different cards, and the die cut page yielded several focals & greetings.  This next picture shows the little book pages & smaller pieces from little book pages that I decided I'd put with this set.

All in all, there are a LOT of materials here and I'm going to get a LOT of cards from them, so I've decided to post this set in two parts.  Part 1 is the first 7 cards I made from this set.

Card #1:

The focal is cut from a little book page.  The background is AS with the bottom edge fussy cut around the flowers & then placed on top of most of the focal (all except the very tip of the heart - which I fussy cut so it would sit on top).  The small greeting in the upper left corner was taken from the 2016 Essential Book of Greetings - which I cut & re-shaped.  The dragonfly at the top was also fussy cut (from the little book) and added (I had actually put the dragonflies with a different set from this kit, but I decided I needed to steal one for this card).  The greeting at the bottom is from the set.

Inside:

The border is from scraps of the die cuts.  The flowers are fussy cut from one of the little book sheets.

Card #2:

Here we have a couple of frames from the set, along with a piece of AS and the focal sentiment.  The butterfly & flowers are fussy cut from the little book.

Inside:

Inside I have scraps from the set creating a border - and a sentiment cut from the little book.

Card #3:

I think this is one of my favorites from this set.  I LOVE the embossed background.  It was made using pink card stock from my stash & a 3D Gemini embossing folder called Ornate Lace.  I used a frame and one of the die cut pieces to form the focal.  A strip of darker pink from my stash forms a border that my sentiment die cut piece its on.

Inside:

Inside is a fussy cut piece from the little book and a couple of strips - silver & the dark pink - from my stash.

Card #4:

This card starts with a background of the AS.  Fussy cut pieces from the little book form the focal, embellishments & sentiment.  The thin flowered strip at the bottom was scrap from the die cut sheet.

Inside:

Inside there are more scrap pieces, more fussy cut little book pieces, and a fussy cut tag from an old HOTP set.

Card #5:

Next up is an interlocking gate fold card.  The focal and frame are some of the die cuts from the set.  The sentiment is cut from a little book page and matted with a couple of papers from my stash.

Inside:

Inside, the sentiment at the top and all the flowers are fussy cuts from the little book.  The pink is from my stash, and the rest of the sentiments are stamped with Just Rite stamps - from the set called With Symapthy.

Card #6:

The floral frame is cut from a little book page, as is the sentiment & butterfly.  The tag is from an old HOTP paper kit.  The whole is double matted on white card stock and then on pink vellum.

Inside:

Inside I have more of the pink vellum & fussy cuts from the little book.  The sentiment is stamped using a stamp from an unnamed Poppy set I got from HOTP.

Card #7:

Here I have another gate fold card.  The sentiment & frame are die cuts from the set - the other flowers are fussy cuts from the little book.  These are all placed on pieces of pink card stock from my stash that were matted on silver before being added to the card front.

Inside:

Inside is a piece cut from the little book - glued on top of a piece of pink vellum.

Another Miracle

Today's page certainly evolved!  I find that sometimes I have my mind so focused on all the extraneous details of the story that the point of the story can get lost - especially on scrapbook pages.  That was the case here.  The focus of this story is the sale of our home in Canby - previous pages have already detailed the purchase of our current home.  And yet, for some reason, I at first wanted to have pictures of both homes on this page - which led me down all sorts of rabbit trails layout-wise until I finally realized my mistake.  Then the page came together much more easily!

It's pretty simple:

  • turquoise background with wide piece of striped paper down the center
  • doily in the middle serving as mat for the focal
  • printed title block
  • printed journaling block
  • money & butterfly embellishments

A Second Challege

This page was definitely a "Moving" Target! ;)  While I probably should have put some the journaling behind one of the pictures, and may yet come back & make the title a larger font, I'm reasonably happy with it.  Especially compared to my first two attempts!

Below is my first try - as you can see, the journaling became my focal!  Not what I had planned!

I tried moving the truck to the center & the journaling to the lower corner (see below).  This was better - at least the moving truck was closer to being the focal.  However, the journaling still tried to dominate.

Changing the shape of the journaled text, helped quite a bit, and gave me what you see at the top of the page.  Not my best work, but I think I can live with it now. :)

A Challenged Scrapbook Page

I'm afraid this one is a bit hard to see - because of glare in the photo - sorry about that.  Hopefully you can see enough to get the idea.  I'm working on a "Faithbook" - a scrapbook about the way God has led in my life.  This page is the companion page to "A Bolt Out of the Blue" - about how God led in our move to Idaho.  It fulfilled several challenges on a message board I frequent - hence the title.

Title Block: Words were die cut from patterned paper & then backed with deep turquoise rectangles (no-name dies).  Numbers were die cut from the same deep turquoise (more no-name dies).  Both were glued to a strip of white and then attached to the top of the page.  Border stickers finish the block off top and bottom.

Fence Block: Each fence piece lists milestones along the way.  Most also have dates, showing how quickly things happened.  These "fence" pieces were die cut using a Momento tag die before I wrote on them.  Behind them, top and bottom, are two narrow strips of white to help it look more like a fence.

Focal Block: The focal is matted on yellow, then white, then on a patterned piece.  What you don't see is that there is actually hidden journaling behind the picture (there's an additional strip of white on the left edge forming a "hinge" - and a magnetic closure to keep it from hanging open & getting bent or something.  The photo is of our house, but I fussy cut a picture from the internet to add the "sold" sign.

Embellishing: There's a tag on the upper left corner - made with the dark turquoise, white card stock, and a sticker - finished with gold ribbon. The tag shape came from Design Tool Kit #1 (HOTP). When I looked at the gold border on the title block, and the gold on the tag, I decided I needed a bit of gold closer to the bottom right to move the eye around the page a bit.  I found a gold sticker in my stash that said "You Did It!"  That summed up the way I feel about the way my Heavenly Father led us in this move, so I spelled out the word "Father" in gold letters on a white background & added it just above the sticker.

Happy Mother's Day

Today I have 3 quick Mother's Day cards.

Card #1 (above): This first started with an image from a Hunkydory set that my Mom shared with me called "Peony Promise" (or something like that!).  I embossed the background with my Rosa embossing folder (by Anna Griffin - Cuttlebug).  I cut the image to the shape I wanted and then matted it with metallic silver poster board & added to the card with foam tape.  The sentiment was from a Debbi Moore download set called "Cottage Retreat".

Inside:

The sentiment inside is just alphabet stickers.  The focal is from the Hunkydory set - matted on a piece of metallic silver poster board cut with a Spellbinder's die - Decorative Labels One.

Card #2:

This card started with a scavenged focal from a card received.  The sentiment was again from the Debbi Moore set - and inked with distress ink.  The background was the plain white card base - embossed with my Swiss Dots folder (Cuttlebug).

Inside:

Paper from my stash that coordinated with the card front forms the base for my stamped sentiment (from a set of Poppy stamps from HOTP).

Card #3:

This last card started with another scavenged card front.  After fussy cutting it as I wished, I matted it on green suede paper (hard to tell in the picture, but pretty IRL).  The banner sentiment was from a CraftsUPrint download called "Unicorn Birthday"!  I colored it with distress inks so it would blend better.  Then I stamped the name with a homemade stamp I made using my stampmaker.

Inside:

Inside is a piece cut from beautiful stationary my grandmother had.  On top of this is a frame - (cut with Spellbinder's 5X7 Matting Basics die) once again from the green suede paper. (HOTP - Love that stuff!)
