Peek-a-Boo Slider Cards & Scraps

Today I have several Peek-a-Boo Slider Cards.  I love this structure!  This card was made using papers & cut outs that came in a HOTP personal shopper.

Inside: (left blank for a personal message)

There are multiple YouTube videos about how to make this style of card.  Here's what I did:

Card Base - 3 pieces cut from card stock as follows:

  • One that is 1/2 sheet of letter-size (5 1/2" x 8 1/2") - I call this piece "B" in my instructions,
  • One that is just 1/4" smaller (5 1/2" x 8 1/4") I call this one piece "A",  and
  • One that is 5 1/2" x 5 3/4" - piece "C"

Patterned Paper Sizes - 6 pieces cut as follows:

  •  THREE pieces that are 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" - two I labeled "a" (for the front & inside), one I labeled "b" (for the back of the card)
  • TWO pieces that are 4" x 5 1/4" - I labeled these "c"
  • ONE that is 2 3/4" x 5 1/4" - labeled "d"

Scoring - score the card stock as follows:

  • A - landscape orientation - scored & firmly creased at 2 3/4"
  • B - landscape orientation - scored & firmly creased in half at 4 1/4"
  • C - scored & firmly creased at 5 1/2" (just leaves a 1/4" lip on the other side of the score line)

Adhering the Patterned Paper:

  • Cardstock Piece A - orient it as a mountain fold with smaller side of score line to the left - center one of the "a" pieces on the side to the right of the fold and adhere well (you'll be cutting through it so make sure it's well adhered everywhere).  Mark the top with the pencil & flip the piece over - top away from you (valley fold now) - large portion now to the left & smaller flap to the right.  Glue piece "d" to the flap - just to the right of the score line - trim if needed along the far right edge.
  • Cardstock Piece B - orient as valley fold & glue parts "c" centered on each side of the score line. Once again, you will be cutting through these, so adhere well!
  • Cardstock Piece C - with narrow flap to your left as a mountain fold - center piece "b" to the right of the fold to form the back of your card.  Flip it over, so it's now a valley fold with the narrow flap to your right, and adhere the remaining piece "a" centered to the left of the fold.

Assembly & Aperture:

  • Cut Aperture & Glue B to A - Fold B with papers to the inside.  Align both edges of B with right edge of A - wrong sides together (left side of B if opened will be closest to right side of A). B will be folded in half with the fold only reaching partway to the fold of A.  You need to cut an aperture through all 3 layers (keep the flap of A free).  Aperture should not be larger than 2 3/8" wide and should be no more than 3/8" from the aligned edges.  Put adhesive only on the half of B that is closest to A - then glue in place (before or after aperture is cut - whichever works best).
  • Attach C to the rest of the card - with C as a mountain fold with narrow strip to the left, add adhesive to the narrow strip.  Now attach this behind the free part of B - carefully aligning the right edge of B with the edge of the score line.  The large part will wrap around behind and form the back of the card, as well as the portion you see through the aperture when the card is closed.
  • Flap A - Make sure the free flap of A is left free - behind "B" but in front of "C".  When the card is opened, this flap moves into position behind the aperture so the message or object changes as the card is opened.

Here are more examples - I used a Spellbinders die from Card Creator A2 Mat Basics to cut the aperture on all of these:

Card #2:

Die cuts are from from HOTP - as are the papers.  Stamps are from HOTP's Watercolor Roses stamp set & Gina K Designs's Wreath Builder stamp set.

Inside:

Inside is more of the same.

Card #3:

Hunkydory die cuts - along with die cuts using dies from Divinity Designs sets (sending my love, you bless me so).  Paper is misc paper from my stash.

Inside:

More papers from my stash, another die cut, and stamp from Studio G.

Card #4:

I added the strip of glittery washi tape for a border to hide where the paper tore.  It wasn't the best solution, but was the best I had.  In order to try to tie it in for a cohesive look, I die cut the greeting from a shimmery paper (using dies from Divinity Designs - Thanks for Everything and You Bless Me So).  The owl is a freebie download that I found somewhere - not sure where.

Inside:

The inside message was stamped with a HOTP stamp from the set called Thank You!

Card #5:

This card was made with pieces cut from the 1st card I showed here (inside of the aperture), and the rest of the pieces from the HOTP paper kit used for it.  I added Jewel Border stickers & Jewel Dazzles (HOTP)

Finally, here's another Peek-a-Boo Slider card.  For this one I figures out how to make it as a 5" x 7" card - so it doesn't require the extra postage (unless it's too heavy!).

Card #6:

The papers and some of the embellishments came from a HOTP Card Maker's Personal Shopper kit.  The owl was another download from somewhere, the words were composed from alphabet stickers.

Inside:

More of the papers & cut outs from the kit - along with a sticker from my stash. "Happy Birthday" was stamped using HOTP Small Stamp called Birthday Girl.

This card is made like the other slider cards - just the measurements are different:

Cardstock piece "A":  5" x 10 3/4"  -  score at 3 3/4" (or 7" from the other side)

Cardstock piece "B": 5" x 11" - score in half at 5 1/2"

Cardstock piece "C": 5" x 7 1/4" - score at 7" (leaving just 1/4" flap)

Card #7:  And here's the card I made from the scraps of that 5 x 7 peek-a-boo slider

While I had pretty much used all the paper on the slider card, I still had quite a few of the cut outs, so added them to the aperture pieces from the slider card.  Note that the card front is two of the aperture pieces turned on their sides & taped together.  I added washi tape to hide the joins & then added narrower pieces of it top and bottom to tie things all together.  The rest of the embellishments were from the kit.

Inside:

Inside is another aperture cut out from the slider card - and a couple more cut outs from the kit.  The greeting is stamped using a Studio G Birthday Wishes stamp set.
