Woodsy Side Step Sympathy

This card started with a white card base for a 5" x 7" card.  It was made as follows:

Card Structure:
  1. With unfolded card blank vertically in front of you, draw a light pencil line vertically to mark how wide you want the left side of your card (this one is 3" wide).
  2. On the right side, measuring from the bottom, score horizontal lines from the right edge to your vertical mark at: 1", 2", 3.5", 5" (this should be the original card score line), and 7.5".
  3. Cut along your pencil line between the 1" and the 7.5" score lines, then fold the original score line on the left side as a mountain fold.  Fold the score lines on the right (starting from 1") as: mountain, valley, mountain, valley, mountain.
Decorating:  I decorated the card as follows, using elements from the Woodsy Wonderland Collection from Heartfelt Creations.

  • Left Side - Cut printed card stock as shown and attache to left side of card.  Stamp with stamp from JustRite's "Sympathy Vintage Labels" - using a dark brown marker for ink.
  • Back Step - Cut another piece of printed card stock for the back panel, stamp with another stamp from the same set and attach to the back fold.  Stamp two trees with black ink and color with watercolor pencils and chalks before cutting out using matching die.  Attach first one at just the bottom of trunk to bottom of step.  Add a piece of foam tape to the branches & attach for a bit of dimension.  Repeat with the 2nd tree, attaching bottom of trunk a little higher on the panel & using a double layer of foam tape so the tree branches sit clearly in front of the first tree.
  • Middle Step - Stamp the deer with black ink, color with watercolor pencils and chalk before cutting with the matching die.  Attach to middle step with double sided tape near the bottom of the deer (grass).  Color below cut out with chalks to simulate more grass.  Create a pennant from scraps - brown for post, bluish color for pennant.  Write message on pennant with fine tipped marker and attach behind the middle deer.
  • Front Step - Cut the sentiment from the border piece and attach to front step.
