Pretty Packages

Here is a picture of one of the boxes I made for the ornaments I showed yesterday. And here is what it looks like closed.  The ornament was one I got at Michaels in a set of 4.  I cut the packaging in four pieces - one for each ornament - so the plastic sits in the box and helps protect the ornament.

Info for making these boxes:
  • You will need: one sheet of cardstock for the box top; one coordinating sheet for the box bottom; a coordinating ribbon to finish it off, a scoring board, a paper trimmer, a bone folder, a pair of scissors, and strong adhesive (I used my ATG).
  • Cut the box bottom 7 7/8" by 7 5/8".  Score it 2 inches from each edge and crease each fold well with a bone folder.
  • Cut the box top 8" by 7 3/4".  If you wish, trim each side near the edge with a fancy blade or scissors. Score 6" from each longer edge and 5 3/4" from each shorter edge - crease each fold well with a bone folder.
  • Now both pieces are finished in the same way.  The folds mark out 4 corners.  On one side of each corner (NOT BOTH or you'll cut it off!!!) cut along the fold line to the 2" fold.  Then glue these corners to the inside of the edge, forming 1/2 a box.
To see a video showing how to make a similar box, check here.  Here are pictures of the box for the turquoise ornament:
